Mookie is Canberra’s very own sit-down fast food eatery, boasting creative menu items of American fast food favourites with a Japanese twist. Over the course of almost a year Mookie has proved worthy of its hot-listed civic location on Genge Street. The rise of inventive and tasteful eateries has seen Canberra transform into a multicultural hub for impressive cuisine. Mookie has been an avid competitor in this rise, and as diversified hip and happening new venues keep entering the market, Mookie has proved time and time again it is worthy of its reputation.
One glimpse into the eye catching venue of Mookie and you’ll appreciate why they earnt their position within Canberra’s dine out culture. Neon pinks, mauve purples and dark cherry reds make up the unique colour palette for Mookies interior however it’s the geometric shape theme that gives this burger joint its modern appeal. From their pink burger mosaic tiled feature wall to the geometric tray sheets, Mookie has transformed the definition of being on-brand.
Not only does this venue ooze aesthetic appeal, they cater to a variety of diets. Keeping the best bit for last I’d like to present to you Mookie’s latest culinary invention.
Last month Mookie ditched the dairy from their ‘Shroom burger’ making it entirely vegan. You may now enjoy not one but two vegan burger options conveniently within our beloved Civic. Wether its an after work snack or lunch break, post Canberra Centre shop feast, Floriade power up or night out munchie – Mookie is right at the heart of Canberra and ready to serve.
The re-invented new vegan ‘Shroom burger’ stars a greasy mushroom and cheese patty. For a fast food option, Mookie have demonstrated well that they know how to appease to us vegan folk.
Quick ‘Shroom Burger’ Stats
Expect a fried crumbed mushroom and cheese patty, lettuce, tomato and special vegan béchamel sauce. Vegan Cheddar AND Vegan Mozzarella cheese feature within this crunchy on the outside, gooey on the inside patty. The cheese oozes as you bite so prepare yourself for a messy delight.
Allergens : Soy in sauce, Gluten in patty binding. Vegan cheese with a base of coconut oil. Served on alternate non-milk bun (Their ‘Vegan’ bun).
Important to note: As Mookie are still in the process of revamping their menus, this re-invented burger still appears ‘vegetarian’ on the menu. Fear not this burger is 100% vegan with no animal ingredients!
Other Vegan Mookie Goodies
Their other vegan burger, the ‘Donald Watson’ burger is a menu classic with a sweet potato, chickpea and tofu patty, vegan sauce, pickles and slaw. A delicious and prehaps healthier alternative to their new Americana burger if you don’t fancy the faux cheese.
For a snack on the side, satisfy your cravings with a bucket or small serve of fries in sweet potato, potato gem or traditional French fry. Spoiler alert-their fries are amazing! Order with Jaleneno’s, or Guacamole for an extra flavour punch.

Mookie shuts its doors at 9pm Sunday –Wednesday and 9:30pm Thursday–Saturday.
