Wether you are packing a backpack or a suitcase, destined for long haul or overnight stay, chances are you’ll need to pack some toiletry essentials to take with you. Toiletries, or Personal Care items have an important role in our day to day routines to maintain our hygiene. Breaking these routines could lead to frizzy hair, skin break outs, smelly armpits or possibly a new hippy look – like when Leonardo DiCaprio goes without a movie script. If the rugged look isn’t for you – read along to ensure you don’t forget any of your own necessities while packing and learn of my cult favourites along the way.
Vegan Travel To Go Pack
Now I did say I wasn’t keen on the hippy look – but there’s a brand I’ve fallen in love with that takes this term to its contrast – Queue – ‘A Bit Hippy‘.
A Bit Hippy are a Australian vegan brand that create skincare products for the care free- not those that do not wish to shower like Mr Leo. A Bit Hippy create products that care for your skin and are natural and free from harsh chemicals. A Bit Hippy have created a Vegan Travel To Go Pack that includes all the essentials you’ll need for travel all in one cute to-go bag. I’d recommend this bundle to new vegans who are still acquiring their collection of vegan friendly toiletries. The set comes with a natural deodorant, a lip balm (Coconut and Lime that makes my lips shiny and smooth, love!) a cleanser, shampoo and conditioner. Coming with 5 products and a carry bag its a bargain for only $17.50. For the low maintainace travellers looking to pack minimal this set really does the trick. Their deodorant is also a must have for trekking, mountain hiking or sweating it for the perfect gram pose. (I joke) Whatever your travel style may be, chances are you’ll need to be sweat free!

Lip Balm
Hurraw are a great 100% Vegan and cruelty free brand and I love traveling with their tinted ‘Black Cherry’ lip balm for fast paced travel days when I don’t want bother with makeup. The lip balm will temporarily and subtly add a pink tint to your lips leaving you looking just that little bit more lively. When I know I’ll be spending some time in the sun I reach for the Hurraw ‘Sun Balm’. Its 15+ SPH and adds a barrier of moisture to my lips to ensure they stay hydrated out in the dry sun.

There are so many body washes that I could list here..so I won’t choose just one. Some of my favourites include Lush shower gels like ‘Rose Jam’ ‘The Olive Branch’ and Snow Fairy’, Social Enterprise coconut company Niulife’s ‘Charcoal and Lemon’ soap, and Original Source shower gels in all scents. (Do note that Original Source bottles come in a large 250mL, so be sure you have a travel-sized toiletries bottle to take this product abroad.)

Shampoo
For all my past travels I’ve brought a travel sized version of my go-to at home shampoo ‘Rehab’ by Lush. Now I’m sure Lush needs no introduction, but for those who may be new to vegan beauty, I’ll let you know what’s the go. Lush is a cruelty free brand sporting many vegan products. They focus on natural ingredients and tipped the beauty/hygiene industry on its heads when they started selling their chemical free handmade products way back in 1995. Since then they have been a favourite for vegans, although not all products are suitable, some being only vegetarian. Check the packaging for the vegan sticker. Lush travel sized shampoo comes in a 100g bottle. I bought them once, and have since refilled them with my larger stay-at-home bottles when I go abroad. I feel this saves the re-purchase and the plastic, although Lush do have a recycling program and will gladly take away and re-use your empty bottles.

Conditioner
The same jazz applies, the conditioner I’ve traveled with has been by Lush. I use ‘Veganese’ at home and abroad. Purchase it in 100g to save the travel suitcase space. Now I must warn you, if your hair is conditioned to conditioners with sulphates and coating chemicals this one may take some time to adjust to. Its all natural and light weight, so don’t expect that usual fabric like feel first try.

Facial Moisturiser
A Bit Hippy has formulated the HOLY GRAIL moisturiser of my dreams. Its vegan, light weight, free from toxins. This product moisturisers and protects your skin from generating blemishes simultaneously. I use this moisturiser daily wether at home or abroad. This natural facial moisturiser includes natural skin super-oils like Grapeseed, Apricot, Starflower and Vitamin E to prevent breakouts and barrier your skin from polluted air and every day germs. This product comes in a 100g pump bottle that will last you forever. As I’ve experienced you’ll only need a 10c sized dollop each application, which blends easily. If there was one product I’d swear by its this cream! However unfortunately it does not come in travel size. I personally think the 100g bottle is small enough to take abroad as is but if your stressed for luggage space, next time you order from ABitHippy.com select this moisturiser as your complimentary sample. The A Bit Hippy samples are generous and would last you a month if you are frugal with your applications! WIN – WIN.

Toothpaste
My Magic Mud creates my favourite toothpaste. My Magic Mud have designed vegan and cruelty free teeth whitening products that use natural ingredients like coconut oil, bentonite clay and charcoal to enhance the colouring of your chompers. My favourite is their ‘Cinnamon Clove’ toothpaste, although this only comes in the original sizing of 113g. (Travel size aside this toothpaste tastes incredible!) For a travel friendly approach to the teeth whitening fan favourite My Magic Mud sell sets of 4 of their peppermint toothpaste in 23g tubes. My Magic Mud is an American brand and purchasing their products online as an Australian can get costly. You can purchase their products in Healthy Life, Go Vita and Unique stores across Australia to save yourself that hefty shipping fee.

For a cheaper fix: Try White Glo products, they are vegan and sell at Woolworths for as cheap as $4-7. Unfortunately they do not come in travel sizes, however they are a great product that you can continue to use back home. My favourite is their ‘White Glo Charcoal’ teeth whitening toothpaste. Find it here or at Woolworths. Read their vegan & cruelty free statement here.
Sunscreen
Bondi Sands have recently come out with a range of suncare products that are fabulous. The 30 spf Bondi Sands Lotion in the blue bottle has a beautiful scent, and a spray on nozzle making it very easy to apply. Oh and the smell is more like a tropical paradise, and nothing like a fake tan. According to Bondi Sands, email clarification demonstrated the company has always been cruelty free, the sunscreens were animal product free, and that they were working on vegan certification.

Make Up Remover (If necessary)
For those who wear makeup, a remover is a must – leaving makeup on overnight can clog pores and damage our skin. Essano have a ‘Rose-Hip Micellar Water’ thats vegan and cruelty free. It is sold at Woolworths for only $12.99. Micellar Water is a great facial cleanser that removes makeup easily. All Essano products are cruelty free, but not all are vegan. Be sure to check the back label for a VEGAN symbol to confirm if you wish to browse through their range. Unfortunately this make up remover does not come in a travel size at Woolworths (some stores sell 100g), however in the same isle at Woolworths you can purchase reusable travel sized toiletries bottles for only $3.50.

Deodorant
I used a ‘BioLogika’ deodorant on my most recent trip and it really didn’t cut it. Thankfully I now own a very effective deoderent by A Bit Hippy that I’ll now be taking with my on my later trips. It’s an aluminium free natural cream deodorant that smells divine and comes as a roll on for convenience – very travel handy!

Mosquito Repellent/Bug Spray (if appropriate)
Eco By Sonya have designed an ‘organic personal outdoors spray’ to protect your skin from bug bites and mosquitos. Its a multi purpose must have as it can also be used as a room fragrance, odour repellent and body spray. Its formulated with natural ingredients including Citronella, Basil and Lemongrass and has essential oils from Peppermint, Tea Tree, Cedarwood and more. As you can imagine this concoction smells divine and won’t leave you gasping for air like traditional bug repellants that use harsh chemicals and toxins.
